Painting some furniture, maybe dying some couch cushions, definitely updating the mantel.
It's looked about like this since I redid it last year.
My plan was to use some larger art to take advantage of the high ceilings and to draw the eye up.
I know that other bloggers have had some awesome results by ordering black and white prints from Staples. Oversized prints called Engineer Prints.
I thought this really awesome picture of T and I from a photo shoot before we left Illinois would be amazing.
I ordered it.
I knew it might not be great quality.
Oh people of blogland, this is worse than just bad quality.
I should have known when I got an email from Staples letting me know that the Engineering prints aren't specifically for photos.
Are you ready?
ARE YOU READY?!?!?!
AAAAAAAAAH!
It looks like an inkblot test!
Being further away doesn't really help.
Mr. T has some big white splotches on his face...
.....I've got some streaks through my face.
I don't know if their printer was jacked up or what.
I couldn't be disappointed in the store though, so I told them it was fine, the base of a mixed media art piece and that it was exactly what I wanted.
Anyone want a really bizarre portrait of my husband and I? Free to a good home!
Oooh, perhaps I should add it to my "Just Because I Love You" Giveaway.
It's over, and the winner is Myranda from Pretty Living PDX
Congratulations Myranda! Don't be surprised if your package comes wrapped in a scary oversize inkblot test of my face!

I've always wanted to try an engineering print too.
ReplyDeleteWell, that is very interesting....I love your sense of humor about it. The pic of the two of you is awesome though.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a printing issue. I mean, even a blueprint wouldn't look great with all those printer lines. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteOh wow...that did not turn out well at all. I am so glad I know this because I wanted to get an enlarged print for our apt. and was going to get engineering prints! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI would love it if it were wrapped in your face ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you soooo much!
Haha! I've been wanting to try those things too (sort of in the background-- not as a focal point). I like the idea, but that print does look rather ghostly.
ReplyDeletecrazy!
ReplyDeletecostco has fairly reasonalbe prices for photos. you should try there! sorry this didn't work out so well.
ReplyDeleteLame! It kind of does look like a printer issue . . . maybe try printing somewhere else? It's always such a letdown when a project doesn't pan out as envisioned (especially since you have to act cool about it in the store--ha!). I've also seen photo posters for not too expensive--that could be a not-too-pricey alternative that would still be photo quality, but give you a big cool print! It really is a neat photo.
ReplyDeleteOr, if all else fails, take up old-fashioned psychiatry and ask people what they see in the inkblots, then tell them what horrible mental defects that reveals :-)
Haha! This cracked me up! I was totally thinking of getting one, but I felt that my pictures aren't even close to the amount of pixels needed to blow up a picture that large. Better luck next time, eh?
ReplyDeleteOops! I have a friend who uses engineering prints every year to blow up pictures of her four daughters. Hers have always turned out great. I think you got a bum print. For only four dollars, maybe you could find another Staples store? I've been thinking of doing that for a photo I have of my entire family, but my photo is somewhat blurry already, and I'm afraid it won't do well blown up. Question for you: do they only do black and white? My friend has always had hers done in black and white. I'm still hoping to have mine done in color.
ReplyDeleteOK... Call me crazy, but I have an idea. What size is the original photo? Could it be centered on the larger one and use the larger one kind of like a matte for it? Then frame the whole thing. The blurs and streaks might be very interesting behind the more focused print. Or... Just call me C R A Z Y ! ! ;-) -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
